It’s that time of year again, the time of year when singing and dancing can be heard bouncing through the auditorium doors. This joyous sound is all thanks to East’s Theater Company's hard work and preparation for the winter musical, which makes its debut on February 29th and continues until March 3rd. So, give two snaps for the 2024 production of The Addams Family! Now, here are some spooktastic insights straight from the source:

What’s The Addams Family about?

About the Addams family and the connection that they have with each other. The plot is about Wednesday being in love with someone who is very different from the family, so very sunny and happy. Wednesday changes herself for this guy, but the family fights against it, and shenanigans ensue.

What sort of person is going to love this show?

Definitely someone who likes comedies that focus on the ups and downs of a family. I think anyone will love the big musical numbers and dances that fill the show.

What’s challenging about bringing this script to life?

It has been a challenge to have more of a creepy show this year. The past 3 shows have been filled with a more happy fairy tale story, so it is definitely a big switch. We have to act all dark and scary while still having a ton of fun on stage.

Who in the show is most like their character, and who is the least?

Arwen is most like their character, Fester, as he has a way of making everyone smile and with a sunny personality. I would say Julia Graci is the least like her character, Morticia, as Julia is always such a happy, bright person while Morticia is very monotone and serious.

Which scene are you the most excited for?

I always love the opening scenes of shows, especially this one. The first number is my favorite dance to do, and I am so excited for people to see what we have been working on.

Who has the best costume?

Definitely the ancestors as we all get to pick a character to play, so we have so much individuality, with some examples of a cheerleader, cowgirl, and prom queen. I would say some of the top ones are Teagan Wood as a pirate and Bryn Gonci as a courtesan.

How is this production bringing something new to The Addams Family?

This production explores what would happen if someone in the family goes more against the darkness and plays with how the family interacts with each other.

What’s going to surprise people about this show?

I think people are going to be surprised by the fact that it includes a love story; most people when they think of The Addams Family, do not put love along with it. Also, how detailed the costumes are so you can tell exactly what each ancestor is.
