Man’s best friend has been by his side for ages, but they have become more than simple companions. They are a form of support. Service and therapy dogs have helped people with physical and emotional needs. It is no complex note that dogs tend to generally put people in a positive mood. Thanks to the All4Paws Rescue, students were able to meet ‘outreach dogs’, who are not necessarily therapy licensed, but are great visitors and well-behaved. They come to schools, churches, and hospitals to be enjoyed by company.

On January 21, 2022, three dogs were brought to the library by the All4Paws Rescue. Students could visit them during their lunch periods or study halls. In the preceding days, West Chester East held a donation for the dogs. Students, staff, and community members donated leashes, dog toys, and food for the dogs waiting in shelters.

The rescue’s three dogs were courtesy of the owner of All4Paws. The oldest and notably biggest dog is called Otis. He is an eight year old bloodhound rescued from North Carolina as a hunting dog. A gentle giant, Otis has large ears and paws, perpetual puppy eyes, and thick fur that makes him stand out. He is clearly a dog with lots of love to give.

Next is Meatball. With a fitting name, Meatball is a two year old high energy French Bulldog. He has short, mottled brown and black fur, with a white patch on his chest. His adorable, squishy face was loved by the visitors. Despite his tireless personality, he has actually suffered from health problems in the past. He has undergone extensive care on his back and legs. Regardless, he was still very happy to be visiting us at East today.

The last dog is a tragically beautiful mutt. Murphy is eight years old, blind, and hard of hearing. He was rescued blind, but lost his eyes completely later due to a disease. He is the kind of dog who does not let these issues bother him. In a way, he is just like any other dog; wagging his tail and tongue. There are a few measures taken to support dogs like Murphy. He wears a collar that reads ‘I’m blind’ and is kept in close watch. Unfortunately, his time with us is brief, as he suffers from a benign brain tumor. Murphy was very excited to spend some of his last weeks visiting the students.

Adoption is a way of giving animals a better life. Rescue facilities like All4Paws take dogs from troubled situations and allow them to be given another chance. So many animals have been adopted and given great homes. Think about how these dogs made a difference in East students’ days. Well, adoption can make a difference in your life.
