As we countdown the days till our next break, many people have been looking for a diversion from their boredom. It seems as though the perfect game has been found. The increasingly popular word game, Wordle, has taken off in popularity not only in our school but worldwide. The game, originally released in October 2021, currently has over a million people playing it daily.

For those who have never played, Wordle is an online word-guessing game. Each day, people have six chances to guess the mystery five-letter word. It’s really simple but extremely fun. The only downside is that it can only be played once a day. However, do not fear, many spinoffs of Wordle have been created. As a game and Wordle enthusiast myself, I’ve compiled the best spinoffs below.

Themed Wordle’s:

My inner Taylor Swift fan cannot comprehend the fact that a Taylor Swift Wordle is a real thing. Taylordle is played exactly like a normal wordle except the five-letter word is Taylor Swift related. In the past, the words were references to her songs, albums, and names of current and former boyfriends.

As its name would suggest, BTS Wordle is related to BTS song names, trivia, and members. However, BTS Wordle also adds its own color twist to the Wordle concept. When you find the correct letters in the right place they will turn purple (instead of the original green), which is BTS’s signature color. Also in this version, the letter will turn orange when indicating that a letter is in the word but not the right spot.

Another super cool version of Wordle, Queerdle, celebrates LGBTQIA+ culture. It is the self proclaimed “yassification of Wordle.”

If you’re up for a challenge and are a big Pokemon fan, Squirdle might interest you. The point of the game is to guess the Pokemon’s name, but there’s a twist. Instead of telling you which of your letters are correct, the website tells you if you’re in the right generation, type, weight, and/or height.

Lastly, for all the Lord of the Rings fans, I present Lordle of The Rings, a Wordle with five-letter words relating to names or words found in the books.

Harder Wordle’s:

For those who find normal Wordle’s easy (I don’t know how I absolutely suck at them), Dordle and Absurdle are great alternate options. Instead of solving for one word, in Dordle, players have seven chances to guess the answer to two words.

Even more challenging is Absurdle. In normal Wordle, the secret word is already picked out when you start playing, Absurdle however, does not pre-pick a word. The game's algorithm looks at your guesses and sees which secret word conforms to them. Basically, Absurdle tries to prolong the game as long as possible. Just like its names suggests, this version of Wordle is absurd.

Another spinoff I love is Letterle in which you have to guess the letter of the day (don’t worry you have 26 guesses). Not to brag, but I got todays in 25 guesses.

Unlimited Playing Time:

If you ever want to play tons of games of Wordle in a row, Hello Wordl and Wordle Unlimited are great options. Hello Wordl also offers the option to guess words from four to eleven letters long. A really cool feature of Wordle Unlimited is that you can share custom words or the word you just did with your friends.

Math Wordle’s:

There are also some really cool math versions of Wordle. My personal favorite, Mathler, gives you a solution to a math problem and you have to figure out what the original equation was. Nerdle is very similar to Mathler except the solution to the equation isn’t revealed at the start. Lastly, Primel gives the guesser six tries to figure out the daily five-digit prime number.

Other:

If these spin-offs of Wordle aren’t your cup of tea, you can always play Wheeldle. It’s exactly like Wordle, but its background and sound effects are modeled after an old-school NES game.

You can also make your own Wordle to share with friends on the website My Wordle.

There’s even a geography version called Worldle where you have to guess the country based on a picture of its outline. The only difference is Worldle shows you how close your guess is distance-wise (not letterwise).

I hope you enjoyed reading and have fun playing all these new versions!
