When I was younger, Christmas was my favorite holiday. A majority of the reason I love Christmas was because I got presents, but I also loved the overall atmosphere the holiday created. For two amazing months (Thanksgiving isn’t a real holiday; I said what I said) I could listen to cheesy holiday songs, watch Hallmark movies to my heart’s content, and bake way too many cookies. As I get older, I still love these traditions, but I thought it would be fun to create some new ones. So, I asked my trusted friend, ChatGPT, for some suggestions of places to go to in order to feel extra Christmasy this year. I’ve included some of my own research on a couple of those ideas it provided me with in italics. Hope you enjoy reading and get some new ideas for yourself too.

  1. Downtown West Chester:

  2. Explore the heart of the town, where the streets are often adorned with festive decorations and twinkling lights. Many local shops and businesses also decorate their storefronts, creating a warm and festive atmosphere.

  3. QVC Studio Park

  4. QVC Studio Park is known for its holiday-themed events and displays. Check their schedule for any special Christmas events or tours during your visit.

  5. Baldwin's Book Barn:

  6. Visit Baldwin's Book Barn, a unique five-story barn filled with rare books and antiques. The cozy ambiance and the smell of old books create a nostalgic and charming atmosphere, perfect for the holiday season.

  7. Chester County Historical Society:

  8. Explore the Chester County Historical Society, which often hosts holiday exhibits showcasing the region's history with a festive touch.

There’s no exhibits I can find, but they do have a Holiday History stroll. On December 16th or on December 23rd you can sign up for a walking tour at 11am or 1:30pm of West Chester’s early churches, department stores and cultural sites.

  1. West Chester Growers Market:

  2. If your visit coincides with a Saturday (May to December), check out the West Chester Growers Market for seasonal produce, handmade goods, and festive treats.

  3. Ice Skating at West Chester's Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink:

  4. Lace up your skates and enjoy some winter fun at the Rothman Orthopaedics Ice Rink, located in downtown West Chester. Check their schedule for open skating times.

I’m not sure why AI recommended this rink that’s all the way in Philly. If you want a closer ice skating rink, Ice Line has public skating Fridays (8-9:30pm), Saturday (2-3:30pm), and Sunday (2-3:30pm) until the 23rd! On the 24th, you can only skate from 11-12:30pm.

  1. Historic West Chester Railroad:

  2. The West Chester Railroad often offers special holiday-themed train rides during December. Check their schedule for a magical journey with Santa and other festive activities.

Santa's Express is a 75 minute journey on a heated decorated train through the Chester Creek Valley, but, unfortunately, all the holiday train tickets have sold out. If you’re interested, you can still join a waiting list.

  1. Éclat Chocolate:

  2. Visit Éclat Chocolate for artisanal chocolates and, during the holiday season, they may have special Christmas-themed treats. It's a delightful place to indulge in some sweet holiday cheer.

  3. West Chester Public Library:

  4. Check the West Chester Public Library for any holiday-themed events, book displays, or reading programs. Libraries often have special activities during the festive season.

  5. Museums and Galleries:

  6. Explore local art galleries and museums, such as The Chester County Art Association or The Lincoln Room, which may feature holiday-themed exhibits or events.

  7. West Chester University:

  8. If your visit aligns with the holiday season, check if West Chester University has any festive events, concerts, or performances. Many universities celebrate the holidays with special programs.
