A great start to the school year for girls' sports or what we like to call the FFA’s, Fierce Female Athletes, of West Chester East. In the fall we have volleyball, field hockey, soccer, golf, tennis, and cross country.

East Girls Volleyball is starting off the season strong with a 11-2 record and a 6-0 winning streak in the first week of school. The team is led by senior captains Elliet Manning and Katelyn Kernicky. So far this season, Elliet Manning has accomplished an incredible milestone in her high school career, she reached 1,500 assists in the 3-0 win against Marple Newtown. Elliet is committed to Bentley University where she is going to continue her volleyball and academic career. Another accomplishment for East Girls Volleyball is junior, Alexa Mork, achieving 500 career kills in the 3-0 home win against Radnor. The team is looking to make a run for the playoffs this year.

After what was somewhat of a slow start to the East Girls Soccer team's season, they went on a hot four-game winning streak. They beat Phoenixville, Great Valley, Sun Valley, and Kennett to get to 4-5-1. Two key players are Sydney Slusser and Molly Smeins, captains of EGS. Lead goal scorer Molley Smeins has been crucial in these wins scoring 10 of the team's 12 total goals. Carly Bickle and Lia Piombino have also scored this season in games against Unionville and Kennett. Sydney Slusser, the goalie for East, is committed to the University of Vermont to continue her soccer and academic career.

East Girls Field Hockey is led by 3 seniors, Carey Werley, Anna Cappelli, and Clare

Maderaz. Two of the captains (Carey Werley and Anna Cappelli) committed D1 to Villanova and Saint Francis to continue their academic and field hockey careers. As of right now, EFH is going strong with 8 wins and 3 losses. Two of the teams' games went to overtime where Annalise Kubasko (sophomore) scored both of the winning goals. In their 2-1 win over Unionville, East’s goalie, Clare Maderz, had a total of 17 saves. Keep a lookout for East field hockey as they continue to rise up the rankings. Although, they are already currently ranked at 3rd in the PIAA D1 2A.

The East Girls Cross Country Team is led by senior captain Erin McClay. They have had a good season after winning the Battle of West Chester. Sophomore Maria Heebner leads the team with the fastest times. Some key meets were at the Carlisle Invitational, where there were more than 40 schools. Maria Heebner came in 17th place in the Girls Varsity Champion Race. The girls cross country team will be preparing for Ches-Monts on October 12th at Downingtown West.

Shout out to Madion Mathew who is a freshman this year, and is the only girl competing on the golf team.

Gracie Rudderow is the captain of East Girls Tennis. While they have had a slower start to the season being 4-9, they do have a few girls competing in Chesmonts for doubles and singles. Lydia Thornton, Audrey Beckman, and Caroline Brittingham all went to compete in singles, and Lydia made it to the second round. Lydia, Gracie, Audrey, and Caroline will also be competing in doubles later on this season.

Look out for the next issue where we will update you on the standings as playoffs for these sports start to approach. Also, be ready as winter sports start to approach where we find out what sports people are most excited for. Keep supporting your Fierce Female Athletes and go see them play!
